Secret messages, files, and locations are self-destructing messages, meaning they are designed to disappear a few seconds after being clicked on by the recipient. To send a disappearing message, the sender enables Secret Message mode then chooses a time limit of how long the message remains visible once it is opened by the recipient.

If the recipient has not read the message, the sender can mention the recipient by name using "@", sending them a personal notification regardless if the recipient has muted the chat room or not.
